Tips to Keep Your Teen Safe During Prom
I think back to my senior prom and what I remember “haunts” me; as I am now a parent and pray that my children will be safe and return home. During our prom over a decade ago someone was killed. One of the guys took his date to a local pier. The pier is about 200 feet long and starts on the beach and extends into the Gulf of Mexico. While out on the end of the pier a strange man appeared. In a moments time he hit the teenager in the head with a pipe, then sexually assaulted his date. All of a sudden he was killed and the young ladies life changed forever.
For most, the prom only happens once and is a very big deal in the mids of teens. I understand this, but we (parents) have to make sure that our kids are safe. With that said, start by talking with your teen(s). Make sure they understand that you want them to have a great and memorable time. Also make sure they understand that you have their safety and well being as your central focus.
Before anyone goes anywhere you will need them to provide the complete itinerary for the night. This should be detailed and include whom they will be with, where they will be going before and after the prom and several phone number where they can be contacted. Again, this needs to be a very detailed and specific itinerary, general responses should not be accepted. If your teen says after the prom they plan to just “drive around” you must demand the specifics.
It’s a big night but what should their curfew be. As parents’ we need to consider things such as our teens responsibility level, the level of trust you have in them and past history. Make sure they realize that if you set the curfew at 12 midnight, you expect them to be home and if not there will be consequences. Talk to your kids about topics such as drinking, drugs, sex, driving drunk, etc. I really believe effective, honest communication is a key. Ask your teen(s) how they plan to stay safe and avoid dangerous situations that could affect the rest of their lives. Even if their track record has not been so good, use this opportunity to express your belief in them, their integrity and character. You as a parent need to discuss and set clear expectations for the night and both the consequences or rewards associated with their actions.
If they are not driving, find out who will be. Schedule time to meet with that person and your teen(s). You may have discussed the dangers of drinking and driving hundreds of times with your children, but you need to do it again. Let them know that prom is one of the main times that teen(s) choose to abuse drugs and alcohol. Get a written commitment that no one will drink or take drugs and drive. Most kids do not come home directly following the prom, instead it is common to have some type of after party. If this is the case, you need to make sure you establish way(s) to contact them AT ALL TIMES until they get home. In addition, your kid(s) and their friends should have multiple contact information for you and you need to make yourself available all night. Again, it is non negotiable, you must know where your kids are and who they will be with.
Now that you know where they are supposed to be it’s your job and responsibility to contact that parent(s) or establishment and discuss the importance of overall safety for the kids. It is a good idea to contact the parents’ of your child(s) date and friends, together you can discuss the night and any concerns that anyone has. This will also give you the opportunity to get and give contact information such as phone numbers and email addresses. You may also want to agree to send each other updates as you communicate with the kids. This is easy and takes almost no time via email.
Now you need to set up a few mandatory check in calls that your children must make at the agreed upon times. Make sure they know that no matter what you are available to them. They should understand that whatever situation they might find themselves in they can and should call for help or advise. Most of all tell your kids how much you love them and just want the best for them. For overall safety consider providing them with a personal alarm or good pepper spray product. This will provide peace of mind for you as well as them. Finally, use role playing or specific scenarios to teach your kids how you would expect them to act if faced with a difficult situation(s). Then take the time to practice. Role playing can be fun and help strenghten the relations and trust between you and your kid.

How to Find the Best Mascara for Your Complexion
Whenever there is an embarrassment of riches, there are choices to be made. Once upon a time, picking the right color mascara for your skin tone was easy. If you were a dark-skinned brown-haired woman with dark, lush lashes, you were able to wear black mascara. Hardly fair, when girls like that barely need mascara at all, but that was the traditional wisdom. Anyone else, the beauty experts told us, risked looking “fake” and “harsh” wearing midnight black mascara. For the rest of us, they recommended wearing brown mascara for a more “natural” look.
Now, with many new choices of mascara available which include colors like Dark Cherry, Mahogany, Electric Blue and Purple Haze, natural is out the window. The trick to finding the best mascara for your complexion these days is to consider both your skin tone and your eye color, and pick mascara that complements both. Do not forget to take the time of day and social function into account as well. Some of these new colored mascaras are subtle enough to be worn to work while others should most definitely be reserved for stepping out at the club. Here are some tips on choosing the best mascara shades and types for your complexion.
Basic Black and Brown
If you have a medium to dark complexion and dark hair, choose pure black mascara. Depending on the brand you choose, you can also pick black mascara that is available in Noire, a pure sable black.
If you have a medium to dark complexion and light hair, try brown-black instead of pure black shades. The added touch of brown keeps the black from looking too harsh for your complexion.
If your complexion is medium to fair, choose brown or brown-black mascara. The lighter your complexion, the more you should avoid pure black mascara. If you are one of those folks with black or very dark brown hair and fair skin, though, you may be able to get by with thick, ebony black lashes. Keep it a bit lighter for daytime wear and go dramatic at night.
If your complexion is very fair and you have light hair, you might want to stick with one of the new transparent mascaras that add thickness and make your lashes fuller without adding color at all. A great choice is clear mascara, which adds thickness and gloss without coloring at all.
Dare to be Dramatic
Blue-eyed girls can play it a little safer with turquoise and indigo shades. Turquoise can brighten deep blue eyes and deepen paler eyes. Indigo and purple haze gives your blue eyes a dangerous depth.
You do not have to make your brown eyes blue, but those blue shades can really bring those brown eyes out of hiding. Choose burgundy colored mascara to deepen brown or amber eyes, and pick purple to give your brown eyes a tinge of unexpected green.
Green and hazel eyes can wear any shade and look spectacular, but burgundy and purple are surprisingly effective, especially if you are light-skinned and your hair tends toward auburn or red.
Soft and Subtle
If you are looking for something a bit more subtle but still want to add a bit of color to your lashes, several dual coat mascaras give you a base coat in black or brown and then let you add a slick of shimmery color that is barely visible. Each type of mascara may come with a base coat in brown or black, and a highlighting top coat that adds a shimmer of iridescence in silver, gold, copper, mahogany or blue. Which should you choose? Mahogany, copper and gold add warmth to a sallow complexion, while silver and blue can look great with a ruddy complexion.
The real trick to choosing the right mascara color for your complexion is experimentation. Remember that warm colors look best on sallow complexions and cool colors are best for ruddy complexions. There are many types of cosmetics to consider before you find the best choice for your complexion, but these are several tips to consider which can help make the process easier. Depending on your hair color and skin complexion, the style of makeup that you choose can really make a difference.

How To Make Every Day A Good Hair Day
The desire for beautiful hair is not new. Ancient Egyptians shaved their heads and wore elaborate, heavy, braided wigs to achieve perfection. European history also abounds with torturous hair styles including the ornate, powdered styles wrapped around frames and horsehair which attracted vermin. All in the name of beauty.
Today, fashion still influences a woman’s hairstyle but that doesn’t mean you have to subject your hair to needless damage. Whether you color your hair, have it styled regularly or go natural, good hair care doesn’t have to be hard.
Hair is not a living part of your body. However, your hair still needs proper care for optimum health and beauty. One of the key elements to having shiny, healthy hair is to allow the natural oils in the scalp to lubricate it. The hair closest to the scalp benefits from natural sebum oils the most while longer hair can become dry and brittle from a lack of these oils.
Shampoo removes excess oil as well as buildup from styling products. Since the top couple of inches of your hair has most of the oils accumulated on it, this is where you should concentrate your shampooing. While you should wash all your hair, the ends will not have as much oil so you want to be careful not to shampoo them too much or they will become dry.
Winter can be very harsh on your hair and it is important to use a rich hair conditioner to restore moisture to dried out hair. During the summer or in mild climates you may not need a conditioner at all or you might want to just use it on the ends of your hair if the top inches are oily.
Keeping your hair from frizzing or drying out is key for beautiful tresses and one way to do that is to choose a style that requires the least amount of heat and product damage. When blow drying keep the blow dryer at least six inches from your hair to prevent excessive damage from the heat. Blow drying in the direction of the shaft (down the length of hair) will create a smoother appearance. Frizzy and dry hair can also benefit from the application of silicone based products. Bear in mind that a little goes a long way and concentrate the product on the ends of your hair.
If you don’t care for store bought products, you can try using some maple syrup as a conditioner as this is one of the best natural moisturizers. If you do try this messy but effective method on your hair, make sure you buy syrup that is marked 100% pure. To liven up dull, tired hair, rinse your hair with lemon juice mixed with water when you hair is dull and tired.
If you color or perm your hair, you really must make sure your hair is in tip top shape at all times. A little extra care for processed hair will do wonders. Anytime you use chemicals in your hair you should make sure your hair is in a healthy condition before applying the treatment. Overuse of these treatments can damage hair beyond repair and affect the results of the products.
Taking simple steps to maintain healthy hair will make a big difference in the health and appearance of your hair. And remember if you’re good to your hair, it will be good to you in turn!

Tips on Applying Makeup
1. Of course, the first step is to buy the makeup. Here are your cosmetic basics: Face powder, eye shadow, concealer, mascara, eyeliner and lip gloss. Always go for the best quality products your budget will allow, and remember that many products you find at the drugstore contain harsh chemicals that may irritate your complexion. Be sure to take advantage of the well-trained makeup artists you can find at many makeup counters. They can give you a lot of help. This is a resource many women overlook. Remember makeup brushes. In addition, these also should be the best you can afford to purchase.
2. Put on powder and concealer. Concealer should be applied to any areas that have imperfections, such as under the eyes, the forehead, cheeks, chin and nose. Make sure it is well blended so that you do not have clumps of concealer on your face. If you prefer, you can use a foundation. This is intended to make your skin tone even. Put on powder over your concealer. This will make your skin look smoother and blemish free. It will also help control oiliness. Getting a good match to your skin tone gives you the best look and best results, so choose the three products with that in mind. Blend your makeup carefully at your chin line so that no streaks show.
3. As a finishing touch, add some blush. To get a natural looking shade, only use a small amount of blush. This should be put on the round part of the cheek, and smoothed in well.
4. Put on eye makeup. There are several ways to accomplish this. One technique you may want to try is to apply a thin line of eyeliner very near your upper lashes. Then you can smudge the line a little to get a smooth line. The best place to place eyeshadow is over the eye, beneath the crease in a sweeping motion. Apply shadow in a paler shade on top of your eye, reaching to your eyebrows, and then combine these two colors. It is good to match your makeup colors to your own skin tone and keep it fairly neutral. It’s risky to attempt using colors that are too bright or too sparkly as not everyone can pull it off. Lastly, apply mascara thinly and make sure there are no clumps. Your look will be a disaster with thick coats of mascara.
5. Lipstick. You should use either a lipliner and lipstick or simply use a lip gloss. When you use lipstick, pick a natural looking color and stay inside the outlines of your lips for a more attractive effect. Selecting the correct shade can make your teeth seem whiter. Find a brand that really stays on your lips, so that you don’t have to refresh your lip color all the time.
When it comes to applying makeup, practice makes perfect. When put on correctly, makeup will really help to enhance your natural beauty. If you do it wrong you will look a little overdone. Sometimes you just have to try different things until you have figured out the best way to apply your makeup. The best thing to do is to choose shades that are very close to your own skin tone and then use them sparingly.

Dry Skin Around Eyes – How to Treat
The skin around the eyes has fewer oil glands than in other parts of the body, leaving it susceptible to dryness. The dry skin, if left untreated, will eventually lead to thinning, flaking, and wrinkles. This is often noticeable when the humidity drops, such as during winter, in an airline cabin, or in a building heated by furnaces or forced-air heaters. Other causes for dry skin around the eyes include excessive bathing, cosmetics and makeup, or an allergic reaction to certain chemicals.
The Transformé Scrub is made with Zeolite, which is a natural ingredient, so some particles may be darker than others. These particles capture and lift the environmental intruders from your skin. Use the scrub only two or three times a week for exfoliation. Apply the scrub to your hands and mix with water, gently rubbing in circular motions with your fingertips. Rinse well with cool water. Avoid the areas around your eyes. If your skin becomes irritated, use less of the product and use less pressure when rubbing.
Nothing shows your age like dry, wrinkled skin around your eyes. Lighten and brighten with a moisture rich product like Caudalie Eye Contour Cream. Gently pat around your eye contour area to reduce dry skin and puffiness.
As you age, your eyes might need an extra lift. Try targeting ageing skin around your eyes with a skin care product packed with anti-aging ingredients. Lightly dab Caudalie Eye Lifting Serum around your eye before applying your eye cream to restore your skin’s youthful radiance.
Dry skin around the eyes needs extra care as this area is already sensitive. Gently apply eye cream with your fingertips – a small droplet of the cream is enough. Apply onto clean skin always before moisturizer.
Minerals and supplements can make a tremendous impact on eye health. Minerals help the body metabolize vitamins. They also help the body balance nutrition and hormones. Zinc and Selenium can help prevent many diseases including those that affect the eyes. Zinc can be found in red meat, oysters and wheat. Lutein is plentiful in spinach and collard greens. Bioflavonoids are found vitamin C rich foods. Carotenoids also convert substances from these foods into vitamin A that provides antioxidant protection. Omega-3 fatty acids such are found in seafood’s are also excellent for eye health, and they are rich in antioxidants.
Vitamin E is one of the most vital healing agents for dry skin. It has been proven over the years to be able to keep moisture in the skin. It is found in many natural vegetable oils. It’s easy to use, however, straight from a capsule. To apply vitamin E oil directly to irritated skin, just puncture a hole in a vitamin E capsule. This is a great way to get vitamin E directly to a sore spot, such as an insect bite or other extremely itchy spot.
