Cosmetic Tips When on a Tight Budget

eyeshadow tips
Many items which were affordable in years past seem to cost more these days. Prices rise quickly, and saving money is on everyone’s mind. When it comes to cosmetics, some women feel that it is hard to justify spending money on expensive products when money is already tight. Luckily, there are many ways you can save money on cosmetics while still looking great! Here are some cosmetic tips you can use when your budget comes up short.

Cosmetics and the Frugal Philosophy

When you are buying cosmetics on a tight budget, the most important thing you can do is to adopt a frugal philosophy. What does that mean, exactly?

Shop carefully and thoughtfully, buy only products you absolutely must have but buy good quality. They tend to wear longer and require fewer touch-ups. Know what suits you before you buy. Do not be tempted to waste money on products that look good in the store but turn out to be wrong for your coloring. Be creative. Make your cosmetics do double-duty, and do not be afraid to adjust products that are not exactly perfect. Try mixing up old lipstick shades to see if you can come up with something new and original!

There are some specific areas where you can save money. This may differ depending on the individual and their own particular style and look, however most people should be able to look great without breaking their piggy banks.

Face

Without a doubt, foundation is probably the one area you really can’t afford to do without. If there is one product where quality is absolutely the most important factor, that product would be foundation. Even if you are trying to save money, do not be tempted to go for a cheap foundation, your skin will pay for it in the end. Choosing a good foundation is essential to ensure a smooth ‘canvas’ for the rest of your make-up, so it is recommended to go for a better quality foundation, even if you do end up paying a little more.

For a touch of glamour without the expense, check out products such as the luscious Shimmering Facial Whip from E.L.F. In tempting shades such as Lilac Petal and Pink Lemonade, this whipped light cream adds a gorgeous splash of color to your face. It’s fortified with vitamins, too, so you’re definitely doing your skin a favor with this one! This silky-smooth whip can double as a lip color, too, so it’s the perfect product to carry in your purse for a quick touch of color when you need it.

Eyes

One of the easiest ways to save money on eye products is to resist buying pre-made eye shadow compacts. Too often you’re only buying the compact because you like just one of the colors it contains and the remaining two or three colors never get used. Instead, consider products such as E.L.F.’s Custom Eyes Compact. Instead of buying a pre-made compact, you can select make your own color choices and slip them into the compact to create your own eye shadow palette, the perfect way to make sure you get only the colors you need, instead of spending money on colors you won’t use.

Unless you are going for a specific look, such as cat’s eyes or the ever-popular smoky eye, certain eye shadow colors can also do double-duty as eye-liner. Your darker eye shadow colors can work well as eye liners; just apply with a moistened cotton swab.

If you do not have an eyelash curler, consider it an investment. Curl your lashes before applying mascara and you will typically need fewer coats to get your lashes looking long and luscious.

Lips

When it comes to lips, the absolute best way of making your lip colors last longer is to invest in a good lip brush. Using a brush rather than applying lipstick directly allows you to apply less, that means there is usually no need to blot your lips, and you don’t waste any product. Often you can also do away with the need for lip liner, so you’ll save money there too. Using a brush also allows you better control over your lip color application, allowing you to better define your lips, so there’s more at stake than just saving money!

All-In-One

How about gorgeous all-in-one cover for your eyes, lips, and face? The E.L.F. All-Over Color Stick has just what you need, and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. With a fabulous fresh color that gives you a beautifully health-looking glow, your skin is smooth and soft and looks fresh all day long. This great product can be applied as a lip color, cream blush, or eye shadow. In stunning shades such as Persimmon and Lilac Petal, most women will find there’s a perfect All-Over Color Stick just for them!

Beauty Tips – Makeup for the Body

cute makeup tips
Makeup for the face is very common; probably every person around the world knows that makeup is applied on the face. However not many people, even woman may know this but there is also a form of makeup called body makeup. Which as face makeup is meant to hide the imperfections on your body, such as a scar, or mole etc? This is why for many people body makeup is very important, as for us mere mortals our bodies have all kinds of imperfections that we may be ashamed of. On the other had body makeup enhances the good features of your body so that it improves the overall look your body has.

Do you want to break out that cute short skirt, but you’re worried a varicose vein might show? Did you put that halter top back in the closet just because of a pimple on your back? We all have a flaw or unattractive blemish somewhere, but it shouldn’t be holding you back- and with a good body makeup, it won’t be! Body makeup can be used to cover just about any flaw, anywhere on your body. So don’t let an ugly knee-bruise put a hiccup in your get-up. Get yourself a good body makeup, and get on your way.

The key to a good body makeup is a perfect match, and a flawless blend. You might need more than one makeup for different areas of your body, especially during different seasons. Don’t think that the shade that covered your spider veins at the beach in the summer will be able to cover them just as well at a cocktail party in mid-winter. When you go to purchase your body makeup, make sure that it’s an exact match for the area of intended use. If you aren’t sure which one matches best, you can ask an attendant if you can sample different colors, and have them help you determine which works best. You’ll want a thick makeup that’s completely opaque for best coverage. Every time you use it, take a look in the mirror to make sure the match is still right before you go out. It’s no use trying to cover up a flaw with a bigger one.

When you apply your makeup, blot it across the necessary area, and then smooth it into place with a makeup sponge, and then blend it in with the surrounding skin. Make sure that the covering is completely blended in, because a bad blend can look just as bad as a bad match. Next, seal your body makeup with a think dusting of a clear powder. This will help prevent the makeup from running, smudging or rubbing off onto clothing-yours, or anyone else’s! So make sure to apply the powder liberally for the best affect. The up-side is, this process will render your cover-up waterproof. The down-side is, you’ll need a soap that can really cut through oil to get it off. Make sure to wash thoroughly, especially if it’s a pimple that you’re covering in the first place. You don’t want to cover one, only to invite a dozen of its friend to come and visit by clogging your pores.

The most important part of body makeup is actually makeup removal; don’t forget to remove the makeup from your body before you retire for the day. So breakout that skirt and flaunt your beautiful legs without a thought.

Tips For Teens to Drive Safely

make up tips for teens
Believe it or not a recent survey indicates that car accidents are the number one killer of teens. Research has shown the behavior and attitudes of teens can promote unsafe practices. Seventy five percent of teens appear to be tired behind the wheel. When driving with a passenger ninety percent of teens are distracted. Twenty percent of Juniors who are driving have been in an accident in the past year. Add this behavior with an uneducated teen driver and it is a disaster waiting to happen.

Here are some tips for safe driving:

Do not talk on a cell phone while driving. This increases your risk of an accident by four times the amount of other drivers. It is equal to driving while intoxicated. Other distractions can also increase the chances of a collision. Listening to an Ipod or other electronic devices, putting on make-up, eating while driving, or adjusting a cd player or stereo in the car can all increase your chances of a car crash.

Educate your teen for night driving. The mortality rate in night time accidents is three time greater than day time accidents. Make sure your windows and mirrors are all clean. Your depth perception, color recognition, and peripheral vision are already lower from dusk on. At dusk make sure your car lights are turned on so oncoming traffic can see you better. Put more space between you and the cars ahead of you at night.

Reduce your speed. Speeding is the cause of one third of all fatal crashes, and most of this does not include the interstate. Only fourteen percent of fatalities caused by excess speed happen on the interstate. Speeding lessens the amount of time you have to avoid an accident, it increases the probability of a crash, and makes the accident more severe when it does happen. The harm to others or yourself as a result of speeding is not worth the time you save.

Educate your teen on driving safely. After school hours are nearly as fatal as weekend nights for teen drivers. Make sure all passengers are wearing their seatbelts. Make sure your teen follows local laws about teen passengers, including them catching a ride with another teen driver. The risk of an accident increases fifty percent for every teen passenger in the car. Be an example to your teen on safe driving, remember they are watching everything you do. Not only that, remember no accidents over a period of time means cheaper car insurance rates for those teenagers.

Make Your Thinning Hair Look Thicker: Four Tips From My Hairdresser To Improve Bad Hair Days

hair and make up tips
Thinning hair can be very frustrating. Men find it upsetting enough. But for women it’s a disaster. After all, while most men would prefer a full head of hair, they CAN just shave it off. It’s seen as manly, and, in fact, a bald head can indeed look very sexy – on a man.

That’s not the case for women. I feel quite safe in generalizing here that most women would not feel comfortable just shaving it all off. That’s a tough decision even for women who are going through chemotherapy, even though it seems the cool thing to do – to a point. But it’s pretty much unacceptable for women otherwise. Remember the press Britney Spears received when she shaved it all off!

So what to do? In another article, I suggested a few tricks I have found useful myself. Since that article has proven to be my all-time most popular ezine article to date, here’s now another one on the subject, with additional tips. And to get maximum value, I decided to ask my hair dresser John for advice. In addition to some of the tips I already wrote about last time (hair color and thickening shampoo in particular), he made the following suggestions:

1. Use mousse

It will make your hair appear thicker. Experiment with different brands until you find the one that works best for you.

2. Blow-dry your hair upside down

Bend over and start with drying the hair underneath first for maximum body.

Caution:

Be gentle when you blow-dry. Don’t overuse this technique. And don’t use too much heat. Elsewhere I’ve read that air-drying is much easier on your hair, and will help you hang on to it longer. So you may want to consider saving the turbo blow-dry for special occasions.

3. Consider getting a perm

I asked John whether perms were safe for thinning hair, and he said, that yes, absolutely, they were perfectly safe and would really help. I was a bit concerned about the harsh chemicals, but he said that there are milder perms out there these days, and, well, there’s an actual perm literally designed for the purpose of making your hair look like there’s more of it than you actually have: The body perm!

My personal note on this one: Keep careful track of the effect that perms have on your hair. If you find no ill effects, enjoy. If perms seem to cause further thinning, minimize the number of perms you get or at least insist on the most natural and mildest perm you can find.

4. Get the right kind of haircut

Avoid dos that are too long, especially if your hair is straight. The weight will drag it down and make it look even less full. A chin-length bob, especially if it’s layered, will allow your hair to fluff up to its full potential.

On the other hand, be sure to avoid having your hair cut too short, especially on top. It can make thinning hair look even thinner.

Smokey Eye Tips

pencil eyeliner tips
Copyright (c) 2007 Rebekah Mack Bono

The smokey eye has become a classic eye make up look that every woman should master.

Follow these seven steps to achieve the smokey eye look.

Step 1. You must start with a good under eye concealer, such as Prescriptives Camouflage Cream. Always choose one shade lighter than your skin tone, and completely cover any dark circles. Since the smokey eye is very dark, you want to be certain you have good coverage here. If this is a stubborn area for you, (like it is for me) swipe a small amount of liquid highlighter under your eyes and blend with a brush gently. This should do the trick; however, practice before you wear it out.

Step 2. Using an eye shadow brush, dust your entire eyelid, from lash line to brow, with a shimmer pearl eye shadow.

Step 3. With a black eye pencil, draw a line along the upper lashes, as close to the lash line as possible. Start thin at the inner corner of the eye, gradually getting thicker as you work your way out. If you want to take it beyond your natural lash line, flick it up, and out.

Step 4. Draw a thin line as close to the lower lash line as possible. You can stop either one third of the way in, or take it all of the way to the inner corner. It all depends on how dramatic of a look you want. It also depends on your eyes. For example, if you have wide set eyes, you can line them all the way in, but if you have little space between your eyes, only line around 1/3 of the way in as this will make your eyes appear more wide set. Play around with both and see what looks best on you.

Step 5. Draw a line over the line you just drew, with black liquid eyeliner. This gives it staying power. The reason you apply your liquid liner after your pencil is two-fold. 1) You are simply tracing a line that is already there, making it much easier 2) Liquid liners typically have a bit of a glossy finish, which is very attractive.

Step 6. With a dark grey eye shadow, and an eyeliner brush, dip the brush into the eye shadow and draw a line right above the liquid liner, blending upward into the crease. This is what creates the smokey look. I use Bobbi Brown’s eye liner brush because it’s thin enough, but not to stiff.

Step 7. Coat top and bottom lashes with two coats of black mascara.

Don’t feel that you have to stick with blacks and greys. Feel free to play around with different colors, as long as the prominent colors are dark shades. I have done this look with shimmer blues and emerald greens, and it has always looked very sexy.

To make your eyes pop, apply a dab of white shadow to the inner corner of each eye, with the tip of an eyeliner brush. I do this with everybody and it instantly brings them to life!

The smokey eye look does take a bit of practice, but it is well worth it. It is a sultry evening look that looks great on just about everyone.

How to Apply Mascara – Applying Mascara

waterproof mascara
As mascaras are now loaded with proteins and waxes to condition the lashes and come in problem-solving formulations, look for one that suits your needs, Thin, sparselooking lashes will benefit from lash-building How to Apply Mascaraformulations that contain special ingredients to add volume and thickness, If you wear contact lenses, do not use lash-building mascaras, as the fibres within them can get trapped between eye and lens, causing irritation.

Select the right type of mascara for your lashes and the occasion. You can chose from lengthening, thickening, long-wearing, conditioning and waterproof mascara, among many other combinations.During the day I would advise you to opt for adding length, while for a girls’ night out or for your romantic dinner date, it would be better to opt for a long-wearing or thickening formula.

Select the right color. If you have blond or red lashes, opt for the black/brown mascara. if you have dark lashes, opt for brown for a casual look and black for more dramatic lashes.

Next to lipstick, mascara is your most effective makeup tool. It is a great eye opener that emphasizes the lashes. Apart from the obvious choice of color, many brands promise to thicken, lengthen, darken, volumize and condition your lashes. They are also available in waterproof and regular formulas.

Using a proper application technique when applying mascara is extremely important to achieve a finished look. You must ensure that the mascara covers the lashes from the root to the tip of the lash.

For your upper lashes, wiggle the mascara wand back and forth at the base of the lashes to deposit color before rolling the brush through your lashes. Coat lashes from the very base to the tips with full strokes. This method creates a thicker looking lash with the ends separated and the base well defined.

Start by applying mascara to your upper lashes first. Brush them downwards to start with, then brush your lashes upwards from underneath. Use a tiny zig-zag movement to prevent mascara from clogging on your lashes.

Next, use the tip of the mascara wand to brush your lowe lashes, using a gentle side to side technique. Take care to keep your hand steady whilst you are applying the mascara and not to blink while the mascara is still wet. Comb through your lashes with an eyelash comb to remove any excess the wand has left behind.

Use the comb side of the brush and comb through the lashes to separate them. You’ll find that it is easier to separate lashes before they dry. Repeat. Now, hold the brush parallel to your nose and coat the bottom lashes with a stroke of the mascara brush. Now, once again, comb through the bottom lashes with your eyebrow comb/brush.

To give an extra long look to your lashes, once they dry coat the tips of the lashes two or three times with black mascara, while also drying and separating the lashes between applications. If you want very long lashes, coat them from the top.

Tell Me More About How to Choose a Healthy Mineral Makeup Brand That is Natural

mineral makeup
How do pure mineral cosmetics revitalize and maintain healthy skin?

There are excellent properties in mineral based cosmetics that promote healthy skin recognized by dermatologists. Dermatologists typically recommend high quality mineral based cosmetics that are free of irritating dyes, oils, perfumes, preservatives or chemicals, and free of nano-sized particles. Usually, they will prefer the use of natural inorganic minerals that sooth and heal the skin, natural pigments, and cosmetics that are loaded with super-antioxidants. Many women claim tremendous improvement in the quality of their skin within a short period of time after switching to a high quality mineral makeup product. Be sure to check the ingredients when purchasing mineral based cosmetics to avoid brands with inferior ingredients.

Do mineral based cosmetics heal the skin?

Pure mineral cosmetics use revitalizing minerals with properties that are excellent for acne, rosecea, and irritated skin. Acne and rosecea benefit from zinc oxide as it promotes healing to the skin and is a natural anti-inflammatory. Titanium dioxide and zinc hold in natural moisture, keeping the skin healthy and hydrated, and they allow the skin to breathe without clogging the pores. Antioxidants such as grape seed extract or pomegranate extract neutralize free radicals that cause damage to the skin and aging.

Are pores able to breathe?

Finely crushed pure mineral makeup allows the skin to breathe. Pores do not become clogged from using lightweight minerals and non-organic pigments. Whereas, heavier makeup can be absorbed into pores which can cause irritation, acne, and infection. With pure mineral makeup, sensitive skin conditions as acne, rosecea, and dry skin are soothed and not irritated.

More on anti-aging benefits

High quality pure mineral cosmetics are loaded with anti-oxidants such as grape seed extract that have anti-aging properties. Grape seed extract interrupts enzyme reactions that break down skin firming collagen. The mineral super oxide dismutase (SOD) has the property of neutralizing free radicals that age skin. In addition, vitamin A provides natural retention of moisture in skin.

Do mineral based cosmetics provide UVA-UVB protection?

Pure mineral based cosmetics use titanium dioxide as a natural sunscreen. Titanium dioxide acts as UVA-UVB protection reflecting light and protecting your skin in sunlight. Zinc is a natural anti-inflammatory. High quality mineral based cosmetics will stay on your skin when sweating or moderate swimming. So they have both SPF (sun protection) properties and water proofing properties. Most mineral based cosmetics have about SPF 15 on average.

What is the big deal about Nano sized particles?

Make-up that contains nano-sized particles are questionable as these particles are more easily absorbed into the body. Nano particles are useful in the cosmetic industry. For example, nano sized particles can encapsulate vitamin A and deliver it deeper into the skin. Nano sized ingredients are 10 to 1,000 times smaller than normally sized powder particles. Nano technology used in products are an important area of research and their impact on health and safety need to be further understood. There are conflicting opinions and research articles that have been published about using nano particles on the skin. Some state it is not a concern and others state it is something to worry about as nano-sized particles can be found in deeper tissues soon after skin contact. Another body of research points to inhalation of nano particles as a potential problem as well. Avoiding products with ingredients that have nano-sized particles is definitely a safer direction to take and be sure to look for products that ensure they do not use nano-particles.

What about fragrance in cosmetics?

Fragrances are the most common cause of irritation to the skin. Fragrances can be completely natural. However, most fragrances contain chemicals as phthalates that are used to make the scent last longer. Phthalates are unnatural and unhealthy. It is known that sometimes artificial chemical fragrances can accumulate in the body and breast milk. Fragrance formulas can trigger asthma and headaches. Be cautious when you look for an unscented product. Even though it is labeled unscented, an additional chemical may be used to cover up the original fragrance! So check the ingredients and become informed about your cosmetic products. You will find that pure mineral based cosmetics do not use fragrances.

Why aren’t preservatives used in pure mineral based cosmetics?

Cosmetics made from pure minerals and inorganic pigments that exist in nature do not need preservatives. Bacterial and fungal growth do not occur in completely dry pure mineral based cosmetics. Therefore, pure mineral cosmetics can be used for long term, up to two years. Preservatives are used in cosmetics that are not completely dry. These are subject to bacterial and fungal growth. Unfortunately, preservatives can cause irritation, acne, and infection to the skin. Preservatives are one of the main ingredients in most fragrances.

Are pure mineral based cosmetics good for the environment?

When friendly non-toxic ingredients are used in manufacturing products, the water systems are not contaminated as you wash the cosmetics off. Mineral based cosmetics are non-toxic and not based on non renewable resources as petroleum.

How do I find mineral based cosmetics that offer these qualities?

Many inexpensive cosmetics use an inferior grade of ingredients so be careful with checking what you are buying and putting on your largest organ, your skin. High quality pure mineral makeup will tend to use highest quality ingredients such as pharmaceutical grade minerals, certified organic antioxidants, and nano-free particles. Higher quality mineral cosmetics tend to last longer, and are a much much better value in the long run considering the value of your health. Look on the web for pure mineral makeup companies that ensure they are non-toxic, nano-free, and preservative-free. Always check product ingredients on the Mineral Foundation Ingredient List or the Environmental Working Groups Skin Deep Report.

We recommend high quality pure organic makeup such as afterglow cosmetics a completely natural brand of mineral makeup that can be found in the uk, sweden, norway, finland, germany, austria, denmark, and netherlands at carefreebeauty.eu or in the united states at carefreebeauty.us.

Resume Makeover Tips: Some Simply Effective Ideas

makeover tips
Your resume is the key to getting into those great interviews and, ultimately, getting the job. So what types of things do we all need to look out for when preparing or reviewing our resume? Included in this article are some of the most important tips a person can receive according to a few acquaintances in corporate human resources departments.

The first thing an individual should do once they begin the resume review process is to make sure there are no spelling errors! Yes, this seems obvious, but have you really looked it over thoroughly with your naked eye and not just the word processor’s spell check? You would be surprised how many things the spell check option will miss when solely depending on it as your ‘editor’. This is one of the most important things as it says a lot if a person does not spell correctly and/or tends to overlook the typos. Would you like to hire that person if you had 100 prospects for one job?

After the spell check has been completed and any errors have been corrected, start getting rid of the extra words such as “I” or “me” and just give the prospective what they want: a solid resume that is to the point. All the extra stuff does nothing but aggravate as this, too, is a sign that a person is not thinking about the potential employer or reader, but only about themselves. The employers just want the resume to get to the point as they are quite busy and do not have much time to look into each specific detail about your past history.

Speaking of history, one thing that is surprisingly common is for resumes to be in chronological order. The first job the interviewee ever had is, you got it, on the very top of the resume. Why? The only reason I am told is for a more functional resume for when a person is going into a completely different field and wants to show their consolidated experience in blocks. So the most recent employer/job should almost always be at the very top. The next tip I have received is, again, simplifying the resume for the reader. Only this time it is about getting rid of those extra statements that only the interviewee believes makes a difference at all. Rather than putting out a resume that looks a lot like this article with a lot of words jumbled together, shorten sentences and create bullet points in order to get to the point. Bold, italics and underlining should all be used sparingly and mainly for headings as too much can rally create a sense of ‘overdoing’ it and it can also aggravate the employer. Yes, they are aware that you really want this job, so show them what you have done to deserve it.

Finally, read your resume to yourself as if you were reading it to the potential employers themselves. Does all of this sound like something you would love to listen to if you were the employer? Does it keep you on the edge of your seat or just kind of leave you in a slightly lethargic state? If it is going to be simply about your past jobs and you know there are others waiting for the same interview, be the considerate one. Get to the point and let them decide based on your resume and who you are in person. They will already be able to tell a lot about you in the room during the interview just through your actions, so you won’t need to describe any of this in your resume. I hope these tips I have received were a little helpful if not more in giving you some helpful ideas on how to improve your resume today.
