MAKE UP TIPS FOR YOU

On your wedding one of the many decisions you’ll have to make is whether or not you want to have flower girls for your ceremony. Before we go any further let’s remember one very important thing - it’s YOUR wedding day so you should do feel comfortable doing whoever you want! You will already have so much to think about that you may simply choose to go without. However, if you do then there are a few things to consider.

Let’s look at what they actually do. The task of the flower girls is to walk up the aisle in front of the bride carrying a posy of flowers. These tend to be young girls of between 5 and 10 years old. You may wish to pick girls from both families and maybe even involve some children of the bride and groom’s friends. There are no set “rules” so you can choose who you wish.

You will need to give the parents of the girls plenty of time to plan and get used to the idea.  They’ll need to be dressed for the part, and you may want to take them all out to find their flower girl dresses together. You’ll want to choose flower girl dresses that compliment the bride’s own wedding dress, but who pays for the actual dresses  themselves?  Depending on your budget you could either choose to pay for all dresses and the accessories, or instead ask the parents of the girls themselves to pay for the shoes and any accessories, and perhaps contribute towards the cost of the dress.

You’ll need to find somewhere to buy the flower girl dresses, and the first place to look is probably going to be the retailer where you plan to buy the bride’s wedding dress. It is more likely that they will be able to provide complimenting bridesmaid’s and flower girls dresses too. Having them all individually made may be too much for your budget, so shop around to find off the peg flowergirl dresses.

Remember that you will also need to budget for gifts for the young attendances as a thank you present or all of their hard work. Traditionally you would give the girls personalized jewellery, which can be engraved to make a special flower girl gift memento.

One final tip, if all this sounds too much for your wedding budget then why not save a big chunk by hiring the flower girl dresses. With the other accessories and special gifts they’ll have plenty of treats already to remember yours, and their, special day.
